    The cupping theory was mistakenly introduced into the ophthalmology field in the 1850s. The lamina cribrosa appears to be sinking resulting in the peripheral-to-central axotomy of nerve fibers at the scleral edge.

    It doesn't do that! With severe glaucoma there are patches of blind spots, or poor vision spots, in your field of vision that seem sort-of normal, but your brain is filling in the missing bits with what it thinks is there, but may not be. That's when it's dangerous. You can see the missing bits if you close one eye, and look ahead as you move your hand around your field of vision.

    Important info: I had taken nicotinamide 500mg most days since feb 2022. In august 2023 I upped the dosage to 3000mg. After 2 weeks, i needed emergency medical attention as I went into urine retention and needed a catheter fitted- doctors couldn’t find evidence as nicotinamide as the cause. Bloods/scans were fine. I started taking nicotinamide (same dosage, more precise times) in October. Again after 2 weeks, I struggled to pass urine. This continued for 7-9 weeks. This month I took niacin 250mg, 1g a day, for 4 days- I’m now struggling badly to pass urine, and my bladder is near mullered!

    • @moondriver232
      @moondriver232 4 месяца назад

      That's terrible, and I'm totally sympathetic. And thank you very much for sharing your experience with us. I'm thinking that, like some participants in the study who had adverse reactions when the dose got up to 3g a day, could it possibly have been better for you to increase your doses in really small increments? Maybe you would have experienced less severe side effects and been able to stop, or at least reduce your dosages without such awful bladder problems? Just a thought. At any rate, thanks again for sharing with us. I, for one, will be keeping my doses at 600mg (300 twice a day) for several more months until I slowly experiment with slightly higher doses.

    • @robp2282
      @robp2282 4 месяца назад

      @@moondriver232 thank you. Just to add, when I started taking it in February 2022, I was taking one 500mg most days, I can’t put a date on it, somewhere between autumn 22-late spring 23, I noticed I was struggling to fully empty my bladder at night- I really didn’t think anything of it. I see this now as a warning sign. Also each times I have had this reaction, I’ve developed a really metallic salty taste in my mouth which lasts for weeks. Not to mention the change in bowels! Please be careful, this vitamin needs many more trials, especially longer term. Urine retention- it was probably the scariest thing I been through. At the time hadn’t passed urine for 30hrs+.

    • @blueskyes99
      @blueskyes99 4 месяца назад

      @@moondriver232 - I am using 500 mg nicotinamide B3 capsules. I had been taking one a day, but recently increased to two a day. I will be careful and now perhaps only take this twice a day intermittently. I am also taking citicoline daily and n-acetyl-cysteine or s-acetyl-glutathione about once every week or two. These are also supposed to help. There is some research on lithium orotate for glaucoma. It is apparently low in soil. Yet I will wait to add this until I can get my lithium level tested. Another form of lithium is apparently used for psychological disorders and I read that it is known to cause weight gain and thyroid damage. So it seems the right form and dosage would be very important for glaucoma. (The jury is out on this, so I will defer any use of this until I learn more.)

    Apart from supplements, here is a suggestion when glaucoma affects partial vision loss for a solution to be hopefully reached. With the onset of A.I, perhaps glassware producers of spectacles could invent and extend or expand the remaining sight for improvement.and ability for users to see better. As it takes time to reach total blindness with the onset of glaucoma, a study could be initiated to produce specially made glasses that will expand any available remaining sight for the individual glaucoma victim. This may be an alternate method for preservation of partial sight loss since damage of the optic nerve is irreplaceable at this point of time in Yr2024.

    • @GlaucomaUK
      @GlaucomaUK 3 месяца назад

      Hi Tony. One of our helpline advisers has replied with the following: “Travatan (Travaprost) is preservative-free, so I wouldn’t have thought the red sore eye is due to using it. Combigan contains BAK so if anything is causing the sore eyes I would say there is more chance of this being the issue. You need to tell your consultant. They may consider changing the drops or even asking you to go on an eyedrop vacation from the Combigan to see if things improve. There is always the possibility that you may want to stop using them, but if you do it is important that you make your consultant aware as they will want to know.” We hope that helps but don’t hesitate to reach out to our helpline team if you need further advice: glaucoma.uk/care-support/helpline/

    You described the disease so well but no hope of true and lasting healing is mentioned. What are the factors contributing to this? Could it be, unhealthy lfestyle, pollution, radiation, processed food and drinks, sugar, alcohol, smoking... what is is the cause? Medication and surgery has come a long way only to bring sideffects more than it ever cured...

  • @user-mf3xs3mh6u
    @user-mf3xs3mh6u 6 месяцев назад

    Nicatinamide and Niacinamide are the same thing. And they come in capsules not tablets so they are easy to digest. Liver function test to check enzymes are a good idea. When patients are told GLAUCOMA is a PROGRESSIVE disease and they will become blind, DO YOU NOT THINK MANY PATIENTS MAY WISH TO TRY IT. IN MY CLINIC, THE LOSS OF SIGHT WITH LAZER SURGERY AND OTHERS, HAS BEEN ALARMING. SO, BY THE TIME IT MAY BE PROVEN, YOU MAY BE BLIND. What would you choose then if you had glaucoma? If blindness is a distinct possibility and eye drops or lazer will lower pressure, that is not sufficient to save your sight. It is not just about eye level pressure. This new study may show reversal of vision loss, it is already indicated, so the use of niacinamide or nicotinamide is going to happen unless they prove otherwise.
